The Friendship Project

Changing the ways in which we view the world through the lenses of photography and friendship

Our youth were inspired to capture what friendship means to them—across all forms, cultures, and connections. Through their lenses, they explored and documented the depth of human relationships, from laughter-filled moments to quiet acts of support and solidarity.

To ensure these powerful perspectives reached beyond the classroom, we took these student photographs and plastered them along Melrose Avenue, transforming the city streets into a public gallery of love, connection, and community. Passersby were invited to witness friendship through the eyes of young artists, sparking reflection and dialogue about the relationships that shape us.

The Friendship Project not only provided students with hands-on experience in visual storytelling but also empowered them to share their voices in a bold and visible way. By displaying their work in a public space, we reinforced the idea that art should be accessible, representative, and a force for social connection.

The Program

With photographer and director Jason Landis, ABG students from Fairfax High School learned about how photography can be used not only as a tool of creative expression but also as a way to communicate ideas with the world.
